Summer Reading Challenge
Want to make the world a better place? It all starts at your local Idea Store or Library this summer with
"The Big Wild Read". We´re challenging you to change the world. By reading books, you can open your mind, help save the planet and have loads of fun! Every book you read helps plant trees and that`s great news for the environment.
The Big Wild Read starts on Saturday 14th July.
How to take part in the Big Wild Read
Collect your Big Wild Read Folder and your free seed packet from the Idea Store or library and fill in the registration card.
Borrow some books from the library. One book per visit can be counted as your Big Wild Read.
Read the book and decide what you think of it. Write down the title and author on your folder and decide on a rating of 1, 2 or 3.
Go back to the library and show someone from the Idea Store or library your folder - they will want to hear how much you enjoyed your book.
You?ll be given one sheet of stickers. Add your one tree token sticker next to the book title on your folder. Find the places to put the rest of the stickers. Test out any scratch and sniff stickers by scraping them with the side of a coin to see if they work!
Congratulations, you?ve finished the first stage of the challenge!
To complete the challenge, you need to read 5 more books and collect 5 more sheets of stickers. That should be five more visits to the library, and at the end you?ll be given a Big Wild Read certificate.
And during the summer you can also think about the ways you can help save the environment - even if you do just one thing.
All the tree tokens from children taking part in the Big Wild Read will count towards new trees being planted in UK woods.
Don´t forget to check out the website www.bigwildread.org.uk to meet some authors, find out what everyone´s reading, and try some games and activities.
We will be holding lots of great activities in the Idea Stores and Libraries during the summer holidays.
Farm visits, Mr Creepy Crawly, craft activities, toy making with recycled materials, t-shirt printing, drawing workshops, author visits, face painting, story telling, rhyme times, clown shows, puppet shows and lots more.
Happy Wild Reading!
